I’d spent too long convincing people to buy something they didn’t need!

Hi, my name is Gustavo, I’m 26, I’m a graphic designer and I am from Brazil.

I decided to join Pais because, first of all, I wasn’t satisfied with my professional life. Even though I’d done various jobs for large companies, such as Citibank, Novartis and McDonalds, I’d always felt like I was doing something superficial, something futile. In addition to my frustration, I found myself constantly worrying about money. No matter how much I earned I always seemed to be in need of more. I reached a point in my life where I wanted to spend my time doing something meaningful with lasting results that would have a significant impact on those around me. I wanted to invest my time in promoting something that people were in need of and not trying to convince them to buy something they weren’t.

I know now that God brought me here because He had a greater purpose. I work voluntarily but have learned that to be rich you don’t need material possessions. I’m learning all the implications of living in faith. I have a wonderful host home who provide all my food and accommodation, great work companions, a loving church and a Director who mentors and teaches me along the way.  I have so much more because my life has meaning and purpose. I may not have thousands in the bank but I have never felt richer. I have so much more than I actually need.

I’ve been part of the Pais Movement HQ for 4 months now as the Media apprentice and, through my work, I’ve seen people around the world changed, grow and surrender their lives to Christ. I’m happy to say that now I ‘sell Jesus’. Something that people do need and the best part is that it’s free. For me, this is what being a missionary is all about.

If you are thinking about working for God, but still have doubts about the future, I would encourage you to step out anyway and God will do the rest. A Pais apprenticeship will grow and stretch you. God has called me out to be what He wants me to be and at the same time lives are being changed through my work. I would never have thought that I could be a ‘graphic design missionary’ but here I am and I haven’t regretted a single moment.
